About the formats
SVG is a vector format made of shapes instead of pixels, so it scales to any size. Many apps and upload forms need a pixel image like PNG instead.
PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It is ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics, but photos saved as PNG are much larger than JPG.
