PNG or JPG?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which helps if you’ll edit the image further. But a photo saved as PNG is usually several times larger than the same photo as JPG. For sharing and uploads, HEIC to JPG is usually the better choice.
Photo details
The PNG files Tabmorph makes don’t include the photo’s date, camera or location. If you need the date and camera kept, convert to JPG instead.
Opening HEIC files on Windows
Windows 10 and 11 only show HEIC photos after you install two Microsoft Store add-ons: HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions (a paid one). Converting the photos to JPG means they open everywhere without installing anything.
About the formats
HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads save by default. It keeps quality high at small sizes, but many Windows apps, websites and upload forms still can’t open it.
PNG is a lossless image format with transparency. It is ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics, but photos saved as PNG are much larger than JPG.
